Description
Description
In 1951, in the wake of the enormous success of the 2CV, Citroën introduced the van version of the small French utility car onto the market. The result was a small van with a generously sized rear platform, capable of easily moving around the city and accessing places where it was almost impossible to reach with a normal commercial vehicle.
For the first version of this commercial vehicle, identified by the project code AU 250, the 375 cm³ air-cooled twin-cylinder was envisaged. The tires were also slightly different, in the sense that it was fitted with slightly wider tyres. The 2CV van reached a top speed of 60 km/h and was one of the few commercial vehicles of that size that ensured sufficient internal space and a load capacity of 250 kg.
In 1955, the small van benefited from the 425 cm³ engine and the project name changed to AZU 250. All the changes that happened from time to time mirrored the updates that appeared on the 2CV sedan. In 1961, changes were made to the grille, which was thus updated.
In 1963, the engine power was increased to 18 HP, while a new model was introduced, the AK 350, which mounted the twin-cylinder 602 cm³ of the Ami 6, capable of developing up to 22 HP. With these improvements, the payload of the AK 350 rose, as the name itself suggests, to 350 kg.
In 1970 the AKS 400 was introduced, practically identical to the AK 350, but with a higher body roof, in order to allow for a greater load volume, the which reached a maximum capacity of 400 kg.
1972 saw the update of the AZU 250, which benefited from the 435 cm³ of 24 HP of the 2CV 4 of those years. In 1974, the entire 2CV van range was slightly restyled, thanks to the adoption of rectangular headlights which then returned to round ones in 1978.
